Chancellor’s Memorandum No. A-251

April 4, 2005

IMPLEMENTATION OF CAMPUS SMOKING POLICY

[Supersedes Chancellor’s Memorandum No. A-236 dated August 16, 2000]

[Implements Chancellor’s Memorandum No. A 243 dated February 11, 2003]

Smoking is only permitted in the parking lots and in the immediate vicinity of outdoor cigarette ash receptacles located on campus grounds.

Smoking is not permitted in any building, or the doorway of any building, or in the proximity of air intake vents of any building on the Purdue University Calumet campus. This policy also applies to any building operated or owned by Purdue University Calumet at an off-campus location.

Smoking is not permitted in any university vehicle.

POLICY ENFORCEMENT PROCEDURES:

Effective on the first day of the fall 2005 semester

SPECIAL NOTE:  Voluntary compliance is being undertaken in the spirit of campus collegiality.  However, failure of the effort to gain voluntary compliance may result in the campus adopting a smoke-free campus policy.   Such a policy would prohibit smoking on ALL campus property.
