RE:          Vice Chancellor for Advancement

I am pleased to announce that Judith Lasker Kaufman has accepted the position of Vice Chancellor for Advancement and will join our university staff and senior leadership team Monday, November 8, 2004.

Judith, who most recently served as Vice President for Development at Roosevelt University in Chicago, brings to our campus more than 23 years of results-oriented, fund raising experience with not-for-profit organizations.  She provides extensive expertise in planned giving, capital and annual campaigns, telemarketing and special events.

“What excites me most about Purdue University Calumet,” she said, “is that I am coming to a campus in which nearly 75 percent of the student body is made up of first-generation college students.  That’s exciting because those students experience the university in ways that transform their lives, those of their families and those with whom they come in contact.”

While at Roosevelt, she directed multi-million dollar annual fund raising efforts that surpassed goals.  She also established 12 new alumni chapters.  Previously, as Executive Director of Planned Giving and Acting Director of Major Gifts at Illinois Institute of Technology, she had responsibilities for a successful $250 million campaign and provided stewardship for more than $100 million in deferred gifts.

Please join me in welcoming Judith to our campus family.

I also wish to express by deepest thanks and appreciation to Fred DeHaan, whose tireless work and leadership as Interim Vice Chancellor for Advancement following the death of Dolores Steuer-Wagner was critical in navigating us through the opening year of our five-year, $10.8 million “Plan for Success” campaign.  During a time when our Advancement operation has been shorthanded, Fred and the rest of the Advancement staff have worked diligently making excellent progress toward our goal.  I am pleased that Fred has agreed to return to his former position of Assistant Vice Chancellor and will provide valuable support, experience and knowledge to Judith.
