Re:                   English Proficiency Requirement

 

The Research and Educational Policy Committee, at the request of the Department of English and Philosophy,  recommends that Academic Regulation s 4-A-6 (for associate degrees) and 4-B-6 (for baccalaureate degrees) be deleted.  The regulations read:

 

ASSOCIATE DEGREE:

 

4-A-6

a.  All students admitted to a School for the fall of 1979 or thereafter shall demonstrate proficiency in the English language by passing a composition examination, which shall be offered at least once each semester.  The Deans of the Schools shall not allow any of their students to graduate who have not met this requirement.

 

b.  In addition, an instructor will advise any sophomore student markedly deficient in composition skills to attend the Writing Laboratory where, for a nominal fee, the student may work at specially designed writing programs.

 

BACCALAUREATE DEGREES:

 

4-B-6
