RE:  Creation of Ad Hoc Committee on Assessment and Evaluation

The Faculty Affairs Committee requests the approval of the Faculty Senate to create an Ad Hoc Committee on Assessment and Evaluation.  This committee would be populated by the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE), in consultation with the Faculty Affairs Committee.  It is anticipated that this committee would be have a term of one year. 

The primary charge to the Ad Hoc Committee on Assessment and Evaluation would be to facilitate conversation and dialog among faculty about course evaluation and teaching evaluation, with a goal to present recommendations to the Faculty Senate via the Faculty Affairs Committee on a system or format for evaluations across schools and academic departments.

Specific committee objectives will include:

• Committee will make presentations to schools and academic departments early in the Spring 2006 semester
• Committee will facilitate the writing of questions from each academic department for the next variation of Flashlight (by May 12th, 2006)
• Committee will attempt to assist the faculty in agreeing to appropriate measures of course evaluation and teaching evaluation.
