Re: Task Force on Admission Standards at PUC
Date: April 20, 2005
RESOLVED:
The Senate will establish a Task Force on Admission Standards to advise the VCAA.
Rationale:
According to the Constitution, the faculty is responsible for the curriculum. As the curriculum is closed tied to the ability of students to successfully complete the various courses, faculty believes that it should have the opportunity to advise the VCAA concerning admission standards.
As the faculty has the best opportunity to recognize the quality of the students presently in the classroom, it would appear that faculty could provide the VCAA with recommendations for improving the quality of students.
As the faculty develops the curriculum for its courses, the faculty are the best persons to indicate the level of standard necessary for students to satisfactorily complete their courses.
