As you know, the charge of the Task Force per Senate Document 05-01 was to develop guidelines for appropriate student behavior in the classroom and service offices throughout the University. In order to fulfill its charge, the Task force met weekly from February 2 through March 30, 2005. It will continue to meet to make recommended changes and for implementation, if adopted.

Our charge was to address student incivility on campus. We realize that others members in our community do, at times, engage in uncivil behavior. Our entire community must be involved in practicing and promoting civility; to that end, as stated in the resolution, the Task Force is also recommending the following: “t he Human Resources Department, in conjunction with the University Police Department, is requested to develop and offer Training and Development programs on Civility across Campus on an annual basis. The Task Force and Senate recognize that incivility is not limited to members of the student body and thus they encourage the Chancellor to call all members of the university to commit to and promote a community of civility campus wide”.

The Task Force recommends adoption of the following documents for the campus:

  1. Student Civility Code

  2. Guidelines for Faculty in Handling Student Disruption in the Classroom

  3. Guidelines for Staff in Handling Student Disruption

  4. Guidelines for Students in Supporting the Code of Civility

Your packet includes the following as one document. Each separate document starts on a new page.

  1. Student Civility Code

  2. Guidelines for Faculty in Handling Student Disruption in the Classroom

  3. Guidelines for Staff in Handling Student Disruption

  4. Guidelines for Students in Supporting the Code of Civility

  5. The plan for communicating the Student Code of Civility on campus
