TENURE STATUS NOTIFICATION POLICY
FOR TENURE CONSIDERATION OUTSIDE THE PROMOTION PROCESS

Each untenured faculty member (tenure track appointment) eligible for tenure will receive an annual performance evaluation. These performance evaluations will be prepared by the respective department head and issued as a memorandum to the respective faculty member. Progress toward tenure will be addressed explicitly, and expectations regarding timing and completion of candidates’ action plans will be clearly stated. Each memorandum will be signed by the department head and the faculty member (acknowledging receipt of the memorandum). A copy of the memorandum will be filed in the faculty member’s official personnel file.
In accordance with Purdue University Calumet procedures, candidates for tenure will be notified of actions taken by recommending committees and administrators, specifically, the primary tenure committee, the department head, the secondary tenure committee, the dean, the Chancellor, and the Board of Trustees.
After the vote of the academic unit primary committee, the committee chair will provide a memorandum to the faculty member stating the recommendation, referencing the standards and criteria used to reach the recommendation, and providing a summary of the rationale for the recommendation. The memorandum will not make reference to any comments or actions attributed to any individual committee member. A copy of this memorandum will be filed in the faculty member’s official personnel file.
The department head (in departments where the department head is tenured) will provide the faculty member with a memorandum stating the head’s recommendation, referencing the standards and criteria used to reach the recommendation, and providing a rationale for the recommendation.
After the vote of the school area committee, the Dean will provide a memorandum to the faculty member stating the committee’s and Dean’s recommendations. A reference to the standards and criteria used to reach the recommendations will be stated in this memorandum. The memorandum will not make reference to any comments or actions attributed to any individual committee member. A copy of this memorandum will be filed in the faculty member’s official personnel file.
The Chancellor will provide a memorandum to the faculty member to report the Chancellor’s recommendation to the President (positive or negative) and, if negative, the Chancellor’s rationale. A copy of this memorandum will be filed in the faculty member’s official personnel file.
The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will provide a memorandum to the faculty member to report the Board of Trustees decision. A copy of this memorandum will be filed in the faculty member’s official personnel file.
