SUBJECT: Outstanding Faculty Awards –
Interim Procedure
The Faculty Affairs Committee requests University Senate approval of the following
proposals for the selection of the outstanding teacher, scholar, and service
recipient for the 1998-99 academic year. This cover page serves as an overview of the interim selection process. The
attached documents are in a side-by-side format comparing the former procedure
with the proposed. The first attachment
is the proposal for selecting the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award
and modifies Appendix A of Council Document 93-4. The
second attachment is the proposal for selecting the recipient of the Outstanding
Scholar Award and modifies Appendix B of Council Document 93-4. The third attachment is the proposal for selecting the recipient
of the Outstanding Service Award and modifies Appendix C of Council Document
93-4.
OVERVIEW OF INTERIM PROPOSALS
· In
each of the traditional categories of teaching, scholarship and service, a
maximum of one award shall be made for the University.
· The
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, with input from the Deans (or Heads)
and faculty of each of the six schools, shall appoint six members to each of
the three university outstanding faculty award selection committees:
Outstanding Teacher Award Selection Committee
Outstanding Scholar Award Selection Committee
Outstanding Service Award Selection Committee
· Each
of the three committees shall be comprised of one representative from each
of the six schools:
Liberal Arts and Sciences
Engineering, Mathematics and Sciences
Technology
Education
Management
Nursing
· Each
committee shall be chaired by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs without
vote.
· Nominations
for outstanding faculty awards may be made by individuals or Departments and
will be forwarded directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs by May
1, 1999, no School based review committee will be employed. Each
committee will make the sole determination of the award recipient and report
its decision directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs by July 29,
1999 (or sufficiently early to allow for the presentation of the awards at
the faculty convocation held in the fall 1999 semester).
· The
criteria used for selection and the general procedures for selection shall
be in accordance with Council Documents 93-4a, b, and c.
