Document Subject:  New Course - OLS 421 Psychology of Safety

This new class is being added to the curriculum for the Safety, Health and Environmental Management Major as a required course per the approved Bingo sheet.

 

Justification:  This course will provide students the opportunity to examine various psychological theories, and applications of those theories, related to safety, accidents and losses.  Students will research one of several contemporary applications or approaches adopted from psychological theory.  Students will apply techniques discussed in class to better understand states of motivation as it relates to occupational safety processes.

OLS 421- Psychology of Safety

This class will provide necessary exposure to contemporary approaches used to influence employees’ safety related behaviors.

Prerequisite: OLS 331, PSY 343

Class 3, Lab 0


 

Impact on Students:  The addition of this class is necessary to provide students exposure to this critical area so that they will be better prepared to deal with them in the workplace.  This class will be developed so as to be delivered in either a live classroom setting or over the Internet.

 

 

 

What other Academic Departments will be impacted? None, as PSY 343 is already a required class for this Major.
