Justification:

This program of study and the curriculum are based on the latest and most up to date information in regards to IT curriculum. Students who take this program of study will be prepared for continuing on with information technology in a 2+2 scenario, or they will be prepared for the work force.

Program Notes:

1.     The program requirements are determined by the date a student officially becomes a CISIT major.

2.     A grade of a “C” or better is required in each CIS major course. CIS courses in which lower grades have been received must be retaken                                                     

        before progressing to the next course in the sequence.  An incomplete is not considered a passing grade.

3.     Only two CIS courses may be repeated because of an unsatisfactory (D or F) grade.  These courses may be 

repeated one time. Withdrawal from a CIS course with an unsatisfactory grade will be considered equivalent to a final failing grade.

4.     No student shall choose the pass/not pass option for a CIS course.  Advisor agreement is required for any other course.

5.     Students may test out of up to two CIS courses.

6.     Students not prepared to take MA 153 will be required to take a non-credit preparatory math class.

7.     Humanities Elective is defined as one of the following: American History, English Literature, Modern Language, Philosophy, World

        History, World Literature or Aesthetics (i.e. Fine Arts, Music, Theater).

8.     Social Science Elective is defined as one of the following: Anthropology, Communications, Economics, Political Science, Psychology 

or Sociology.

9.     General Education Elective is defined as one of the following: English, Math, Communication, Humanities or Social Science.

10.   Natural Science Elective is defined as one of the following: Science 112, Astronomy, Geology, Biology, Physics or Chemistry

This plan of study is part of the larger change to the IT curriculum that will create an interdisciplinary need for courses, and may create increased enrollment in other departments.  Informal discussions have taken place with other School of Technology departments and related computer departments at Purdue University Calumet when approving the courses initially.

This program utilizes all previously approved courses within the CIT department. This plan of study is aligning a previously accepted plan of study with the new courses and requirements of the department and University.
