Document Subject : Add MET 102, Production Design and Specifications to the Purdue University Calumet master course list.

Justification : The faculty would like to make transferring credits to and from Purdue West Lafayette and Purdue North Central easier for our students. MET 102 will eventually replace MET 205. This is a revision of TECH01-76 passed by the University Senate on 12/05/01 which never was accepted during the Form 40 process. Accepting the Purdue University West Lafayette pattern should allow us to offer the course at Purdue University Calumet. The Purdue University Calumet MET industrial advisory committee endorsed replacing MET 205 with this course at its November 12, 2004 meeting.

Current : None

Proposed : MET 102 Production Design and Specifications

Class 1, lab. 5, cr. 3. Prerequisite: CGT 110, MET 162.

The design, evaluation, and documentation of engineering specifications required of manufacturability and assembly are introduced. Emphasis is on CAD-based details, assemblies, design layouts, equipment installations and related industrial practices.

Impact on Students: This course, together with MET 266 and MET 214 make an excellent capstone sequence for the associate degree in MET. Also replacing MET 205 with this course will make credits from the MET program more readily transferable among MET programs in the rest of the Purdue system.

Impact on Other Academic Departments: None

Summary of Discussions with Other Academic Department : None

Impact on University Resources: Additional lab and faculty resources will be needed to accommodate the new pattern.

Impact on General Education Requirements: Develops problem solving skills, communication, understanding of physical and natural processes.
