Document Subject: CIS 288 LAN Technology prerequisite and description change.

Justification: The overall curriculum is changing. The prerequisite CIS 140, Introduction to Networks, now contains the prerequisite knowledge required for CIS 288. The new description more accurately reflects the content of the course.

Current: CIS 288, LAN Technology

Prerequisite: CIS 230 & CIS 287

Class 2, Lab 2, Cr. 3

Description: Local Area Networks from the technician's point of view. Topics include the various topologies and protocols which are available in today's LANs, hardware and software requirements, and network loading factors. The Novell network will be explored in great detail. Differences between wide area networks and local area networks will be explored.

Proposed: CIS 288, LAN Technology

Prerequisite: CIS 140

Class 2, Lab 2, Cr. 3

Description: This course is an intermediate networking course and local area networking and design course. This is a laboratory and lecture course that covers the topics of topologies, networking protocols, hardware, and software of the local area network. Students will evaluate networking technologies, design local area networking solutions, and implement local area networking solutions.
