Document Subject: New Certificate in Managing Diversity for the OLS Program

Justification: Recognizing the need for supervisors and human resource professionals to have the skills for dealing with and managing diversity, the METS Advisory Board and OLS faculty recommend that this certificate be added to the OLS curriculum. This certificate program requires students to take a five-course series of OLS courses and compliments other certificate programs offered by the OLS program. The certificate program is being added to provide an additional educational opportunity consistent with the needs of students, employers and the community.

Current: None

Proposed: Certificate in Managing Diversity. The proposed certificate consists of:

OLS 454 Gender and Diversity in Management

OLS 468 Personnel Law (TECH04-47 would rename OLS 468 to Human Resource Law)

OLS 477 Conflict Management

OLS 550 Managing Diversity

OLS 560 Women in Management

Impact on Students: Adding this certificate to the OLS Program will provide another alternative area of specialization for students seeking to move into supervision or human resources.
