Document Subject : Revision of a course MET 285 - Numerical Control Machining .

Justification : MET 285 is a Purdue University Calumet course dating back to 1970 which has not been offered for at least the last 15 years. No other campus uses this course number. This course is being updated to meet our current needs.

Formerly: MET 285 - NUMERICAL CONTROL MACHINING
Credits: 3 (Class 3, Lab 0)

Principles, techniques and applications of numerically controlled machine tools. Applications of specific languages involving lab experiences with N.C. equipment and tape preparation devices.

Proposed: MET 285 - COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL APPLICATIONS
Prerequisites: MET 242
Credits: 3 (Class 2, Lab 2)

A study of the principles, techniques and applications of computer numerically controlled machine tools. G and M code programming of industrial machines, tooling systems, and an introduction to Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems will be covered.

Impact on Students: None, since the course which has been regularly offered over the past two decades, MFET 275 is being discontinued along with all other courses with the MFET designator.
