Justification:         The changes in this course are proposed to expand the topics covered in this course and to better align this course with the recommendations for course content for Information Technology accreditation.

                                Analysis & Design

                                Class 2 Lab 2, cr. 3

                                Prerequisite: CIS252, CIS253

                                This course discusses the role of databases in

                                the System Development Life Cycle with an

                                emphasis on rational base analysis and design

                                techniques-logical data modeling.  Additional

                                topics include the functions and components

                                state-of-the-art commercial DBMS software,

                                distributed database, database models and the

                                role and function of the Database

                                Administrator. Students will be assigned

                                Analysis and design projects.


Proposed:              CIS 354 Relational and Object-Oriented

                                Database Modeling

                                Class 2 Lab 2, cr.3                                                                                               

                                Prerequisite: CIS 252, CIS 253

                                This course discusses the role of databases in

                                the System Development Life Cycle with an

                                emphasis on relational database and object- 

                                oriented database analysis and design

                                techniques-logical data modeling.  Additional

                                topics include the functions, components of

                                state-of-the-art commercial DBMS software,

                                distributed database, database models and the

                                role and function of the Database

                                Administrator. Students will be assigned

                                data modeling projects.
