Document Subject: Alteration of an existing course ECET 100, taken by all ECET students in order to satisfy the new General Education Requirements: For all students to take a freshman experience course.
Justification: The current course ECET 100 “ECET Seminar”, 0:2:1, could not simply address the issues that are meant to be address by Freshman Experience Course. Current course has only two lab hours. The proposed new course will have 6 lab hours to address comprehensively issues related with freshman experience (This course would include utilization of campus resources, goal setting, values exploration, relationship of academic planning and life goals, discipline specific career exploration and critical thinking).
Current: Course Title: ECET 100 – ECET Seminar
Course structure: Class 0, Lab. 2, Cr. 1.
Course Description: Introduction to hands-on laboratory techniques. Practical experience in soldering, fabrication practice, components materials, connections, wiring, tools and equipment used in the field of electronics. Safety related issues and practices would be discussed. An introduction to: various specializations, and the job opportunities within the field of ECET. Concepts of TQM (Total Quality Management) will be introduced.
Proposed: Course Title: ECET 100 – Introduction to Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology.
Course structure: Class 0, Lab. 6, Cr. 2.
Course Description: Introduction to hands-on laboratory techniques. The course is a conceptual introduction to the E lectrical and C omputer E ngineering T echnology [ECET] discipline. The course would provide an experiential introduction to the key concepts of the discipline. This course would include utilization of campus resources, goal setting, values exploration, relationship of academic planning and life goals and critical thinking.
