Document Subject:

Nursing Major: Change in Credit Hours, Change in Prerequisites.

Justification:

The faculty reduced the credit hours in Ethics because it was felt that for the undergraduate level we

could use the credit hour to include content in other courses that would better prepare our students

for the State Board. We further felt that 2 cr. hours was sufficient to cover the level of ethical

discourse needed at the undergraduate level. Course specific ethics is also covered throughout the curriculum.

Current:

NUR NUR 391 Professional Ethics

Course Pattern: 3 lec hrs. 0 lab hrs. 3 cr. hrs.

Prerequisites:

Description: Ethics as applied to nursing is examined both theoretically and practically.

Basic concepts associated with ethical theory are applied to moral self-concept,

role function, and practice situations involving interdependence. Particular attention

is given to the ideas of advocacy, autonomy, and authority in beginning professional

nursing practice.

Proposed:
