Justification:

The above changes were made in order to add content in the area of woman' s health which

has been identified as a weakness in the curriculum.

 

Current:

NUR 284: Maternal Child Nursing

Course Pattern: 4 lec hrs. 0 lab hrs. 4 cr. hrs.

Pre/Corequisites: NUR 197/297; NUR 283; CDFS 210

Description: Building on the foundational core, the nursing process is utilized as a systematic

approach to promote adaptation in the physiologic, self-concept, role function, and

interdependence modes with childbearing and childrearing families. Therapeutic interventions

specific to each developmental stage of the evolving family are emphasized.

 

Proposed:

NUR 284: Nursing of Women and Children

Course Pattern: 5 lec hrs. 0 lab hrs. 5 cr. hrs.

Prerequisites: NUR 282; NUR 283: CDFS 210; Corequisite: NUR 285

Description: Building on the foundational core, the nursing process is utilized as a systematic approach

to promote adaptation of women and children to stimuli. Evidence based interventions,

specific to each developmental stage of the evolving family are taught. Emphasis is

placed on health promotion across the lifespan which supports the needs of women and children.

The addition of this content will help students be better prepared for State Boards and broaden their

knowledge base of women' s health issues.
