Subject:

Revision of the Business Economics Major

Justification:

Furthermore, the list of elective courses in the major has been expanded to reflect current course offering and listings.

Key Features:

Where a specific course was required for the major, a student has a choice between two options. MGMT 305 and ECON 353 which are currently required courses in the major would now be elective courses.

Current:

Students majoring in Business Economics will complete six major courses, which will include:

ECON 353 Business Cycles

Three additional courses will be chosen from the following:

ECON 352 Intermediate Macroeconomics

ECON 360 Econometrics

ECON 419 Managerial Economics

ECON 465 Business and Economic Forecasting
ECON 467 Economics and the Law

ECON 490 Topics in Economics

Impact on Students:

This change will provide greater flexibility in scheduling as well as in focus in the courses selected for the major.

Impact on Other Academic Units:

Summary of Discussions with
Other Academic Units:

Economics is offered by Management. No new courses are part of this proposal. Courses will continue to be offered and rotated as they have been. Other than expanded opportunities for elective courses in economics, there are no foreseeable impacts on other units.

None

Impact on University Resources:

Because of the variety of upper level courses now offered to meet the demands of the management curricula for electives, this change is possible without additional course offerings or other university resources.

Impact on General Education Requirements: None.
