Subject: |
Diversify a Four Course Sequence in the B.A. Business Program.
|
Justification: |
A significant number of students interested in pursuing this degree, particularly students interested in small business management and entrepreneurship, are discouraged by the four course language requirement. Transfer students from junior colleges, likewise, find the language requirement an impediment.
This change provides alternative tracks in communicative and interpersonal skills consistent with the needs of students in the program.
|
Key Features: |
The four course language requirement is broadened to permit alternative sequences that strengthen communicative or interpersonal skills.
|
Current: Foreign Languages – a four course sequence in one foreign language at least through course level 202. Students with advanced placement will require a minimum six credit hours at least through course level 202 with a maximum of three credit hours departmental credit.
|
Proposed: Communicative skills – a series of four courses in one of the following areas: Foreign Languages – a four course sequence in one foreign language at least through course level 202. Students with advanced placement will require a minimum six credit hours at least through course level 202 with a maximum of three credit hours departmental credit.
Communication – four oratorical skill courses selected from: PSY 310 Sensory and Perceptual Processes Or other psychology courses as approved by the advisor.
|
Impact on Students: |
Alternative course sequences to meet this requirement will make the program attractive to a wider range of students. These changes will broaden the opportunity for students to pursue the degree. |
Impact on Other Academic Units: |
Students following the language track will not change. Students pursuing alternative tracks will complement enrollments in currently offered courses.
