Document Subject:

Revision of General Sociology Option to incorporate Sociology 382.

Justification:  With the adoption of Sociology 382, it is necessary to revise all sociology options to include it as a required course.

Current:

Requirements for the Sociology Major:

BHS 201 Statistical Methods for the
Behavioral Sciences.

Proposed:

Requirements for the Sociology Major:

SOC 382 Introduction to Methods of Social
Research I.

Impact on Students:

The students will be better prepared for their later sociology courses since they will become more familiar with statistics frequently used by sociologists, including rates, indices, multivariate analysis.  The sociology major will have less flexibility as to course availability.

What other Academic Departments will be impacted?

BHS 201 will continue to be offered for those majors that require it.

Summarize any discussions with the departments listed above:

BHS faculty who currently teach BHS 201 are willing and able to teach this course.

Impact on University Resources: None.

Impact on General Education Requirements: None.  SOC 382 is not to be included in meeting Science and Math Requirement.
