Examination
of magazine staff organization, market analysis, and editorial consent. Study
of, and practice in, a variety of non-fiction materials for magazines. Emphasis
is on the adaptation of topics and presentation of editorial policies and
reader groups.
Justification: As COM
451, this course has been offered for many years. As an English course, it will
attract English writing students as well as Communication students, who may
take it to fullfill a requirement in the Journalism option.

The
chair of Communication and Creative Arts has recommended that COM 451 be
crosslisted with an English course in order to offer maximum benefit to
students in the English writing major as well as to students in the journalism
option in the Communications department.
