Document Subject: New Course: BHS 470 Supervised Experience in Early Childhood Programs
Justification: This course is a guided practical experience for students who are already working
in early childhood programs. Because there are few requirements for the professional preparation of
early childhood providers, there are many adults working with young children who have little or no
documented knowledge of the field. The course will offer an opportunity for these providers to consolidate foundational knowledge about early education and care in a guided practical experience.
Current: A similar course has been offered as a Psych 491 section
Proposed: BHS 470. Supervised Experience in Early Childhood Programs
Class 3, Lab 0, Credit 3
Semesters S, 1, 2
Prerequisites: Psy 361, BHS 216, 217, and 224, or consent of instructor
Impact on Students: Opportunity for students who already have bachelor degrees to consolidate
foundational knowledge of early childhood development, and to obtain a guided practical experience.
