Subject:    New Course: LAS 3xx Latino/Hispanic Cinema

Justification:        This course will be offered for credit in Latin American Studies, and will serve as part of a core of courses in Latin American Studies.

LAS 3xx Latino/Hispanic Cinema

 

A study of films produced by Hispanic-Americans and/or depicting the Hispanic American experience.  Students will engage in critical analysis of the films, and expect to develop greater understanding of the social context of subjects introduced.  May include documentaries or feature films.  Approximately two hours each week will be devoted to viewing films, and two hours to class lecture/discussion.

Impact on Students: 

Students will benefit from developing a greater awareness of diversity and film through taking this course. It will contribute to greater course diversity among program offerings.  It will benefit students in a number of disciplines.

Has been approved at department level in Foreign Languages and Literature.  Will serve needs of other departments.

Impact on University Resources:        

No significant impact.  We currently have faculty qualified to teach this course, and subsequent purchases of materials should not exceed normal budget.
