Subject: New Course: LAS 4xx Hispanic Heritage of the Calumet Region
Justification: This course will be offered for credit in Latin American Studies, and will serve as part of a core of courses in Latin American Studies.

Proposed: LAS 4xx Hispanic Heritage of the Calumet Region
(Class 3, cr. 3)
Prerequisite: none
An exploration of the history of Hispanic immigration into the Calumet Region. The course will include an examination of cultural diversity, politics, community organizations, and contributions of local Hispanic-Americans.
Impact on Students:
Students will benefit from developing a greater awareness of diversity in the Calumet Region. The course will contribute to greater course diversity among program offerings. It will benefit students in a number of disciplines.
Impact on Other Academic Units:
Has been approved at department level in Foreign Languages and Literature. Will serve needs of other departments.
Impact on University Resources:
No significant impact. We currently have faculty qualified to teach this course, and purchases of materials should not exceed normal budget.
