Subject:    Change in Plans of Study for the Associate of Science Hospitality and

Tourism Supervision and the Minor in Hospitality Management.

Justification:  In order to partially meet the new General Education Requirement #9 regarding The Freshman Experience, the HTM program has decided to increase the credit hours in HTM 100-Introduction to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry (from 1 to 2).  No document is required to change the credit hours for HTM 100 as it is a variable credit course (1-3).  This change, however, impacts the Associate of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism Supervision and the Minor in Hospitality Management, even though neither requires a freshman experience component.

Existing:    See existing Plans of Study (2 attached).

Proposed:  See proposed Plans of Study (2 attached).

Impact on Students:  The increase in hours of HTM 100 will increase the total credits

of the associate degree in Hospitality and Tourism Supervision

from 70 to 71 credits and increase the total credits in the Minor in

Hospitality Management from 19 to 20 credits.  The main student

impact is requiring an increase of one credit hour for the

                         associate degree or the minor.

Impact on Other Academic Units:  None.

Impact on University Resources:  Moderate impact on faculty resources by

increasing instructional hours of HTM 100 by one

credit and offering it in both Fall and Spring

semesters. Faculty is available to teach these

courses and Library resources are already in place

or funded.  No laboratory resources are required.

Impact on General Education:

General Education Requirements are not applicable to associate degrees or minors, therefore no impact.
