Justification:        This course will be offered for credit in Latin American Studies, and will serve as part of a core of courses in Latin American Studies

Current:  None.

Proposed:  LAS 4xx Practicum in Latin American Studies

                                (Class 0, cr. 1-3)

Prerequisite: Approval of Instructor and Chair of Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literature

This course is designed to offer students credit for field experience in Latin American studies.  Work may include study abroad, community service or research.  May be repeated for additional credit.

Impact on Students: 

Will give students and opportunity to enrich their education outside the classroom, and receive credit for their experience.  The course will contribute to greater diversity among program offerings.  It will benefit students in a number of disciplines.            

Impact on Other Academic Units:       

Has been approved at department level in Foreign Languages and Literature.  Will serve needs of other departments.

Impact on University Resources:        

No impact.  We currently have faculty qualified to teach this course, and purchases of materials should not exceed normal budget.
