RE:                   Appointment of Vice Chancellor for Student Services

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Melinda (Mindy) K. Dalgarn has been offered and has accepted the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Services.  She plans to join our university team on June 1, 2006.

I also wish to express my deepest appreciation and well wishes to retiring Dr. Leo Bryant, who has served Purdue Calumet with distinction and devotion since 1990.  Leo’s plan to remain on staff through June 30 will help ease the transition of leadership within the Office of Student Services.

Dr. Dalgarn brings to our campus more than 25 years of higher education administration/student services-related experience.  Her background includes appointments as Vice President for Student Affairs at Mercer (GA) University, Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Assistant Dean/Associate Director of Housing at Vanderbilt (TN) University.

She also has served the past three years as President of College Survival Guides, LLC, for which she has written two interactive, educational CDs for students and parents, focusing on the transition to college and campus life.

Additionally, she offers experience:

Comments from Dr. Dalgarn

“Addressing issues relevant to the varied student populations is particularly appealing to me.  I am interested in working with the Student Services staff and PUC students in developing programs and services related to such issues as on and off campus housing, internship opportunities, and social, educational and recreational activities.”

“I bring with me a great deal of energy, enthusiasm and experience.  I have been involved in higher education for 27 years and have lived on campuses for over two decades.  I have had the opportunity to be immersed in campus life and have always been a very visible, available, and engaged member of the community. I look forward to continuing that history of involvement at Purdue Calumet.”
