RE:                   Board of Trustees Actions

The Purdue Board of Trustees, at its meeting on Friday, April 7, 2006, acted

on several proposals relating to our campus.  Following is a brief summary.

*     Approved a conceptual general fund budget of $68,747,836 for the

2006-07 fiscal year.  The budget, comprised of projected student fees and

state allocations, represents a 4.3 percent increase from 2005-06.  The

conceptual budget includes revenue from a previously approved 6 percent

student tuition and fees increase and implementation of a $2.65 per course

hour R&R (Repair & Rehabilitation) fee, charged to new students beginning next

fall.  New allocations for 2006-07 will be used for faculty and staff salary

increases and student scholarships.

*     Approved establishment of a B.S. in Civil Engineering degree program -

in response to two key challenges facing our region and nation:

transportation infrastructure and environmental issues.  Through 2010,

predictions from the Indiana Workforce Development Office indicate that the

demand for civil and environmental engineers will increase 14 percent to 28

percent.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that 19 percent of

engineering openings will be for civil engineers.

*     Approved to replace the current B.S. in Engineering program with three

distinct B.S. degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical

Engineering and Computer Engineering.  The new programs reflect a need for

greater specialization in engineering disciplines relative to growing

northwest Indiana demands and the increased expertise of our faculty.  They

also offer compatibility to Purdue University West Lafayette, where

engineering student demand has exceeded enrollment capacity.

2006-07:
