FROM:            2003-2004 Lake Area United Way Campaign

The Lake Area United Way (LAUW) has launched its 2003-2004 campaign.  As we have done for many years, Purdue University Calumet is again participating and will conduct a campus campaign this fall, details of which will be announced soon.  Roy Hamilton, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Educational Opportunity Programs and Director of the McNair Achievement Program, and Denise Woods, Associate Professor of Management Information Systems, are serving as co-chairs of the Purdue Calumet campaign.

This year, the campaign is concentrating on how the Lake Area United Way affects students, faculty, and staff at Purdue Calumet.  There are many agencies supported by the LAUW that contribute to the success of our students and the welfare of our faculty and staff and their families.  Our effort this year will concentrate on the benefits gained by many people from our own Purdue Calumet family.

On many occasions, I have been impressed by the generosity, care, and concern that the Purdue Calumet students, faculty, and staff have demonstrated.  I encourage you to demonstrate those qualities once again this year in support of our Lake Area United Way campus campaign.  Your support will benefit the 45 agencies served by LAUW, or you may choose to earmark your contribution to one or two specific agencies.

Purdue Calumet’s goal this year is to raise $22,000 during our campus campaign, which will officially begin October 6 and continue through November 14.  We will have a LAUW kick-off fair on October 14 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at which time several Lake Area United Way agencies will be in our SFLC concourse to share information about their resources and goals.  The fair will be followed by a kick-off luncheon.  Within the next few days, you will receive via Campus Mail information about Purdue Calumet’s 2003-2004 campaign together with an invitation to the kick-off luncheon, an informational brochure, and a registration form to pledge your support.

Thank you for considering participation and support of this opportunity to reach out and make a difference.

Howard Cohen, Chancellor
