RE: Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
I am pleased to announce that Dean Michael Gealt has accepted my request to serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for Spring Semester 2003. Dean Gealt has been Dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science and Professor of Biology since 2000. Prior to coming to Purdue Calumet he was Director of the School of Environmental Science, Engineering and Policy at Drexel University.
Dean Gealt is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and has served as chair of the Environmental and Applied Microbiology Division of the American Society for Microbiology. He is currently an investigator on the recently announced U.S. Air Force, Office of Scientific Research grant secured under the direction of Professor Charles Tseng.
Dean Gealt will join the Senior Leadership Team and oversee Academic Affairs beginning January 2003. He will serve until a new Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is appointed. A committee, chaired by Library Director and Professor Kathryn Carpenter, has been constituted to begin the search process.
I am looking forward to working with Interim Vice Chancellor Gealt as we begin the implementation phase of the Purdue Calumet strategic plan. I am very appreciative that he has stepped forward to help us maintain momentum with our major campus projects.
