FROM:            2002‑03 Lake Area United Way Campaign

The Lake Area United Way has launched its 2002‑03 campaign.  As we have done for many years, Purdue University Calumet is again participating and will conduct a campus campaign this fall, details of which will be announced soon.  Dee Huffman, associate professor of nursing, and Wes Lukoshus, assistant vice chancellor for advancement, are serving again as co‑chairs of the Purdue Calumet campaign.

Last year, in the face of employer downsizing, a delicate economic climate, the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the pending closing of LTV, Purdue Calumet faculty, staff and students demonstrated their concern for helping area residents in need by surpassing a challenging campus goal of “$21,001 in 2001.”

With our economy still sputtering, we have another daunting challenge this year to be responsive to continued needs in the Lake County area.  On many occasions since my arrival on campus, I have been impressed by the generosity, care and concern the Purdue Calumet family has demonstrated.  I encourage you to demonstrate those qualities once again this year in support of our Lake Area United Way campus campaign.  Your support will benefit the 45 agencies served by the LAUW, or you may choose to earmark your contribution to one or two specific agencies.

Purdue Calumet's goal is to raise $23,000 during our campus campaign, which will begin October 16 with a Kick‑off Breakfast Rally and continue through Nov. 22.  Within the next few days, you will receive via Campus Mail information about Purdue Calumet’s “23,000 Ways to Make a Difference” campaign, an invitation to the Kick‑off Breakfast Rally, as well as an informational brochure and a registration form to pledge your support.

Thank you for considering participation and support of this opportunity to reach out and make a difference.
