 FROM:     2001-02 Lake Area United Way Campaign

 The Lake Area United Way has launched its 2001-02 campaign. As we have done so for many years, Purdue University Calumet is again participating and will conduct a campus campaign this fall, details of which will be announced soon.  Dee Huffman, associate professor of nursing, and Wes Lukoshus, director of university relations, are co-chairs of the Purdue Calumet campaign.

 Employer downsizing and the current economic downturn undoubtedly will make this year's campaign especially challenging.  Yet, as we have seen occur throughout our nation in the wake of last week's devastating terrorist attacks, Americans rise to the task of helping their brothers and sisters in need.

 As I have seen and experienced in my first weeks at Purdue Calumet, such a generous, caring spirit exists on this campus.  I encourage you to demonstrate that spirit once again in support of our Lake Area United Way campaign.  Purdue Calumet's goal is to increase participation among faculty, staff and students--so as to raise $21,001 in 2001!  As in years past, your donation will benefit the 47 agencies served by the LAUW, or you may choose to earmark your contribution to one or two specific agencies.

 Thank you for considering support of this worthwhile and truly community effort.
