Termination of Gift Matching Fund Program
As many of you know, a Matching Gift Program was
established as part of the 1993 Capital Campaign. In the course of my review of campus funding strategies, and
in preparation for the implementation of our campus strategic plan, I am
formally closing this program. Matching
funds will be provided for employee gifts and pledges received by the University
Advancement Office prior to September 25, 2001, but not thereafter. The
Matching Gift Program has been effective in many ways, but a consequence of this
program is that unrestricted funds raised for general university purposes are
channeled as matches to specific programs. Because unrestricted funds will be
required to support strategic planning activities, it is my intention to hold
them in a Chancellor's Strategic Development Fund and disburse them in ways that
directly support our strategic goals.
I
sincerely appreciate your gift support and encourage you to maintain your
giving. All of your contributions
help the university, and we would be pleased for you to continue to direct them
as you see fit. Your gifts fund a
myriad of activities and programs that would not be possible otherwise.
Those of you who wish to reconsider your gift allocations are, of course,
free to do so.
